Kasargod is the northern most district of Kerala, is famous for its versatility and beauty, the topography is filled with forts, hills, backwaters and beaches. The region is flanked by Western Ghats in the east and Arabian Sea in the west, Kasargod's geography consists of dense forest, barren land, grey rocks, thick vegetation, calm lagoon and coastal belt with coconut palms dancing to the tunes of the wind. The remnants and presence of numerous ports in the city remind us of the terrific battle it had with the European conquerors. Arabs traded with Kasargod during the 9th to 14th centuries and called it Harkwillia.

Bekal Fort

The fort is 300 years old and it is the oldest and the best conserved forts in Kerala. The structure reaches a height of 130 ft. above sea level and is sprawling across 35 acres of headland that runs into Arabian Sea.

Kappil Beach

On traveling 6 km from Bekal Fort you could reach Kappil Beach. The beach is secluded and far from the hustle and bustle of the city and a great place to relax, is now becoming a major tourist center.

Chandragiri Fort

It is a large 17th century fort built by Sivappa Naik of Bedanore. The Chandragiri fort is located southeast of Kasargod town on the Chandragiri River. From the fort the sea and the river offers stunning visuals and a perfect place to watch the sunset.

Kottancheri Hills

Kottancheri Hills is situated 30 km north east of Kanhangad. The place resembles the hill station of Kodaikanal and in the rainforest you can go for trekking.

Malik Dinar Mosque

In Kasargod you will find the famous Malik Dinar Juma Masjid built in the typical Kerala style, built by Malik Ibin Dinar. It is well kept and is of great historical significance.


This was once the Seat of Nileswara Rajas, now the Nileswaram Palace functions as the folklore center of the dept. of archaeology. Other attractions of the town are numerous kavus (temple in the middle of woods), temple festivals, yoga and alternative treatments such as rejuvenation therapy and mud treatment such as mud and herbal baths.


It is Located 85 km from Kasargod town, and stands at an altitude of 750 m above sea level. The scenic beauty of this place is comparable to Ooty. A very good place for trekking, the green canopy consists of evergreen shola woods, monsoon forest and grasslands.

Veeramala Hills

Veeramala Hills is a hillock in the Kasargode district. On the hills you will find ruins of a Dutch Fort built in the 18th century. A wonderful spot from where you can enjoy the beauty of Kasargode River.

Pandiyan Kallu

It is a rock rising in the sea about 2 km from Trikkannad Temple. If you are looking for some adventurous swimming then this is the best place.

Kanwatheertha Beach

Here it is an ideal spot for swimming. A large swimming pool like formation on the beach is the main attraction.
