Kozhikode (Calicut) means in Malayalam Fortified City lies in the northern part of the Indian State Kerala. Kappad Beach

Historically significant because it is the beach where Vasco da Gamma landed in the year 1498 with 170 men in three vessels. The beach is also known locally as Kappakadavu. The landscape is fascinating because of the jutting of rocks into the sea. People come here to spend the evening which is mesmerizing. For children there is a Lions Club Children's Park and near to it an ice cream parlor to make the evening delightful. From here you could watch fishermen going for their daily catch, in their small canoes and boats, fighting with waves, and their tiny boats turning invisible in the horizon, later returning with their precious bounty that the goddess of sea has offered them.


Beypore is world famous for its boat building industry which was famous for centuries. It is a small city that is 11 km from the city, off the Kallayi road. Still lots of Arabs come here to build boats.

Krishna Menon Museum

This museum is situated at East Hills and is located adjacent to the Pazhassi Raja Museum. In this museum the personal belongings, books and souvenirs of Krishna Menon is Displayed.

Thursharagiri Waterfall

Dolphin’s Point

An attractive place situated few minutes from the city, the specialty of this city is that you could see dolphins playing in the sea.

Pazhssirajah Museum and Art Gallery

This museum is located at East hill, can be reached by traveling 5 km from Kozhikode. The museum is run by the State Archaeological Department and displays antique bronze pieces, ancient mural paintings, old coins, megalithic monuments and umbrella stones.

Peruvannamuzhi Dam

The dam is situated 60 km from Kozhikode, set amidst hills, is a famous picnic spot. There are facilities for rowboat and speedboat cruises. Adjuncts of this place are a bird sanctuary and a crocodile farm located nearby.

Backwaters of Kozhikode

The virgin backwaters of Kozhikode have a unique charm around it. River Kallai and Elathur canal are the favorite spots for boating. Korapuzha is becoming popular these days because of Korapuzha Jalotsavam and also attracting tourists for its water sports.

River Kallazhi

Traveling 6 kms from Kozhikode you could reach this Kallazhi River, with its old iron bridge, a beautiful image to behold. It is known as the second largest timber trading center in South Asia.
